Day 1 We had an early am flight that brought us in to Washington DC about 11:30am. We checked in to our hotel and headed out. Today's highlights were Georgetown, WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. Also, lunch at a cute outside restaurant with the "best spaghetti ever" according to Kb and a nighttime swim in the hotels rooftop pool.
Day 2 We had a later start leaving our hotel after breakfast about 10am. We checked out the local neighborhood a bit(amazing Whole Foods here!) and then set off. First was the Ford Theatre and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Then we checked out Chinatown, Smithsonian, Arlington Cemetery and The White House. We saw a lot! I was amazed and impressed at how much knowledge the kids had and how many great questions the kids asked while in the Museum of American History. We had a pre-dinner swim and a late(9pm) dinner at a grilled cheese restaurant(yes, many types of grilled cheese on the menu!).
Day 3 Library of Congress, Capital Building, National Garden, air and space museum and a river cruise. Another busy day! We ended with a walk from the river up through Georgetown.
Day 4 We boarded a train at Union Station. The Amtrak took us to Grand Central Station in NY. I had a Taylor Swifts song stuck in my head welcoming us to New York!Checked in to our hotel, checked out Time Square(our hotel was located in the heart of Time Square), St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and Central Park's south.
Day 5 Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, subway rides to and from. We found a nut free donut shop and visited Toys R Us in Time Square. Lunch at a local find and caricatures too!
Day 6 911 Museum. What an experience for the kids, Dh and I. We realized our kids weren't very aware of 9-11. They had videos that explained events better than we did. I didn't take any pictures besides this one. It was a place every American should visit in their lifetime. Katz's Deli for a late lunch, Chinatown, Little Italy and Aladdin on Broadway too!
Day 7 Intrepid Museum today. Before we went to a local Greek cafe for breakfast, walked from our hotel to Intrepid(through an iffy neighborhood and Hells Kitchen). After Intrepid we had a late lunch in Hells Kitchen at an Irish Pub(delicious!) Central Park from 93rd Street and a walk through the northern half of the park with a couple stops at playgrounds. The lake is very pretty as is the park.
